Project Beginnings

Why This Project?

From a professional standpoint, I took on this particular project due to the large abundance of open world games being made by studios all over the world. I believed it would put me in good stead to have a better understanding of how open worlds operate, as well as how players would like to explore them.

From a creative standpoint I took on this project because I’ve got a personal interest in the quieter moments in games. Traversal is often a chance for the player to take a break from the busier, more intense gameplay found in open world games (such as their combat sections). Exploring the different ways it can be utilised is a task that interests me quite a lot.

Early Design Work

The early stages of the project included creating a cohesive, but not too in-depth, early vision with a visual design document, as well as storyboarding some of the gameplay systems that were being proposed.

This work was not intended to be exceptionally thorough, instead it was to lay the groundwork and help make decisions as for what to include and exclude (due to time constraints or other reasons).
